Course – TIL Theories and Methods

Objectives
To support PhD students with their theoretical framing and methodological choices when doing their PhD research in terms of:

  • developing/improving their conceptual model and research strategy (Day 1)
  • learning how to navigate through various TIL-theories and methods (Day 1 and 2)
  • motivating theoretical-methodological choices (Day 2)
  • choosing specific theories and methods for performing the research steps of the individual PhD study (Day 3)

Program (preliminary)
Day 1:

  • Intro, course overview + explanation of the assignment
  • PhD students present (5-10 minutes per student) their research problem-goal, research strategy, and conceptual model
  • How to design a conceptual model, how to choose theory/theories & methods

Day 2:

  • Morning: lecture + preparing for presentation Day 3: methodological choices given theoretical framing from a social science perspective
  • Afternoon: lecture + preparing for presentation Day 3: methodological choices given theoretical framing from an engineering science perspective

Day 3:

Two subgroups of about 6 students will be made, i.e. group I and II

  • Go/No presentation: group I students will present and discuss (20 minutes per student) their setup of the assignment in class.
