On 30 November 2015 TRAIL PhD student Zhe Cong will defend his thesis ‘Efficient Optimization Methods for Freeway Management and Control’ in the Senaatszaal of the Aula of TU Delft.

Short summary
Due to the rapid growth of human population, the number of vehicles using the road systems has been steadily increasing all over the world, which has created a huge socio-economic issue: traffic congestion. In order to prevent, or at least to alleviate this problem, traffic management and control is urgently required. This thesis develops three different management and control methods to improve the performance of traffic networks, particularly with a focus on freeway networks.
