On 1 July 2019, TRAIL PhD researcher Qu Hu will defend his PhD thesis ‘Container Transport inside the Port Area and to the Hinterland’ at Delft University of Technology. The defence is public, and you are invited to join.

Moreover, on the occasion of this public defence, TRAIL and TU Delft have set up a seminar on ‘How to Provide a Better ITT Service in the Port’.

With the increasing need in container transhipment in the port area, the ITT service could significantly affect the efficiency of terminal operation and the transport to the hinterland. To provide a better ITT service in the port, preparations should be made in terms of business models, planning approaches as well as information and communication technologies. Firstly, business model should be discussed to clarify that how different stakeholders, e.g., terminal operators, freight forwarders, logistics providers and/or third part ITT providers, could collaborate and what kind of service can be provided. Secondly, powerful planning approaches are needed to schedule the ITT system, which may involves multiple types of operations and dynamic factors. Lastly, a proper information and communication system should be ready for exchanging transport request and schedule resources among different stakeholders. The speakers in this seminar will discuss these topics from different viewpoints.
