Seminar – Microscopic Simulation for Road Traffic Operation and Safety Evaluation

December 20, 2018 10.00 - 13.30 h

On 20 December 2018, TRAIL PhD researcher Aries van Beinum will defend his PhD thesis ‘Turbulence in Traffic at Motorway Ramps and its Impact on Traffic Operations and Safety’ at Delft University of Technology. The defence is public, and you are invited to join.

Moreover, on the occasion of this public defence, TRAIL and TU Delft have set up a seminar on: ‘Microscopic simulation for road traffic operation and safety evaluation: current challenges and future opportunities’.

Our transport world is becoming more and more complex to simulate. The need for better and more sophisticated representation of the behaviour of different road users (vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists), the inclusion of public transit and traffic management plans, and consideration of new emerging transport modes require continuous research in this field. Additionally, the growing motorization rates in emerging countries create new challenges in managing rapidly growing transportation systems. The speakers in this seminar will discuss the challenges and demonstrate how to simulate such complex systems.
