Seminar – Modelling Passenger Behaviour and Managing Public Transport Operations under Disturbances

February 26, 2020 13.00 - 14.40 h

On 26 February 2020, TRAIL PhD researcher Menno Yap will defend his PhD thesis “Measuring, Predicting and Controlling Disruption Impacts for Urban Public Transport” at Delft University of Technology. The defence is public, and you are cordially invited to join.

Moreover, on the occasion of this public defence, TRAIL and TU Delft have set up a seminar on “Modelling passenger behaviour and managing public transport operations under disruptions”. Public transport services are subject to recurrent disturbances. Public transport system’s ability to prepare, withstand, recover and adapt in response to such disturbances is of great importance for passenger satisfaction, customer retention, level-of-service and system performance. The availability of sensors and passively collected data, fleet management techniques and real-time travel information provision enables both service users and service providers to become more adaptive in the event of service disturbances. Notwithstanding, their ability to minimize and avoid related ramifications rely on the development of control and prediction schemes and the understanding of the underlying passenger behaviour. In this seminar, experts will share methodological and advanced applications related to modelling passenger behaviour and managing public transport operations under disturbances.
