On 27 June 2017 TRAIL PhD Guangming Chen defende his thesis ‘Surface Wear Reduction of Bulk Solids Handling Equipment Using Bionic Design’ at Delft University of Technology.
This thesis has introduced a bionic design methodology for the surface wear reduction of bulk solids handling equipment. Using this bionic design methodology, bionic models for wear reduction are proposed. In combination with experiments, the discrete element method (DEM) simulations to predict wear of conventional and bionic surfaces are carried out. The results demonstrated that bionic design surfaces are ffective in the surface wear reduction of bulk solids handling equipment.
