On 6 December 2017, TRAIL PhD researcher Pengling Wang will defend her PhD thesis ‘Train Trajectory Optimization Methods for Energy-Efficient Railway Operations’ at Delft University of Technology. The defence is public, and you are invited to join.
Moreover, on the occasion of this public defence, TRAIL and TU Delft have set up a seminar on: Optimal control applications in railway and road traffic.
In this seminar two invited international speakers will present recent applications of optimal control to traffic systems. Dr. Ronghui Liu presents the latest development carried out by the railway operations research group at ITS Leeds, which proposes a novel approach to solve a complex optimal train control problem that involves a leader-follower train pair. The objective is to both control the safe headway between the train pair and to obtain energy-efficient driving for both trains. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lei Ma presents the latest developments carried out at SWJTU on optimal state estimation with diverse extensions and applications of the celebrated Kalman Filter. These include fault diagnosis of high-speed train running bogies, estimation of battery State of Charge (SOC), integrated localization and navigation of autonomous vehicles, and distributed coordinated target position determination.
