5. Land use and transport

Chapter 5 first discusses the theory explaining potential impacts of land use on travel behaviour, departing from utility theory. It next makes explicit which land-use variables influence travel behaviour. It also explains how land-use variables, other variables and travel behaviour are linked. Next it gives an overview of findings of research in the are of the impact of land use on travel behaviour, and explains why conclusions often differ. Finally it discusses which indicators are needed to evaluate all important impacts of land use and travel behaviour.
