On 28th June 2023, TRAIL PhD researcher Marko Kapetanović will defend his PhD thesis ‘Improving Environmental Sustainability of Regional Railway Services’ at Delft University of Technology. The defence is public, and you are invited to join.
Moreover, on the occasion of this public defence, TRAIL and TU Delft have set up a seminar on Modelling, Optimization and Analysis of Railway Transport.
Railway transport demand, both passengers and freight, has considerably increased over the last decades. This trend is expected to continue in the years to come as a result of the economic growth and the global initiative in modal shift from road and aviation to rail. Consequently, railway companies are facing significant challenges in optimizing their capacity and operation in order to reduce their energy use, environmental impacts and operating costs while satisfying the increasing transport demand. Scientific research is needed to provide and apply suitable methods in addressing these challenges while encompassing the high complexity of real-world railway systems. In this seminar the speakers will address these topics.
